WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Fall weather is set to continue in Whatcom County this weekend, but don't let that stop you from getting outside and enjoying the cooler weather. From movies to paintballing to live music, there's a ton of fun things to do.
The City of Ferndale's “Flicks in the Park” final film will be shown at the Pioneer Pavilion on Friday, August 23. It's part of the “Summer of Fun” and will close with a showing of “Migration,” an animated film about a family of ducks trying to find the perfect vacation. It turns out it's a long way from New England to Jamaica. Watch as the ducks get into shenanigans and mishaps on their way south.
“Migration” will be performed indoors at the Pioneer Pavilion, the show begins at 6pm, and is free. Come along and enjoy.
If you like live-action movies, come to Fairhaven on Saturday, August 24 to see an outdoor screening of The Princess Bride. Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema features live music, concessions, and movies on a giant outdoor screen. The Princess Bride is a 1987 Rob Reiner classic starring Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Christopher Guest, and Andre the Giant. It's a fun, action-packed adventure set in a magical and wacky fantasy world.
Tickets for Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema are $7 cash or $8 credit card. Live music by Keith Carpenter and Lynn Givier begins at 6:50 p.m., and the movie starts at 8:25 p.m.
Looking to get started in paintball or improve your paintball skills? On Saturday, August 24th, Ferndale's AG Sports Park will host an Epic Paintball Clinic featuring professional paintballer Tyler Harmon. Learn break shooting, sliding techniques, moving and shooting, and how to properly carry your equipment. Harmon will also be teaching Communication 101. Communication is key in paintball. Trust us, it's a great way to get started.
The Epic Paintball Clinic will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participation is $200 and includes one case of paintballs. Book now at aimandgame.com.
Our neighborhood is often referred to as Fourth Corner, and this weekend the Fourth Corner Punk Festival is happening in Bellingham, with Warp Detour performing NOFX's Punk in Drublic in its entirety, plus Seattle's College Radio performing with local punk rock band Boxcutter PNW, Drayton, Paramore tribute band Para Amore, and All Hype.
Along with great music, there will also be tattoo artists performing, mohawks and hair coloring by VS Barbershop, custom grips by Unknown Board Shop, and DJ sets by Ritual Records.
This year's Fourth Corner Punk Fest will be held in the courtyard next to Time and Materials on State Street. There is no age limit and the event starts at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at fourthcornerpunkfest.com.
