Lynn Massey, the eldest granddaughter of the late country music legend Loretta Lynn, has died at the age of 64.
The heartbreaking news was announced on Thursday on the official Instagram account of Lin's foundation.
“Loretta's first grandchild, Betty Sue's daughter Lynn Massey, passed away this week after a long and difficult illness,” the post read. “Our family is so grateful for the prayers and love that continues to be showered upon us.”
Further details about Massey's illness were not released.

Fans were saddened by the news, with one writing: “Prayers to the family. She's with her grandmother now.”

The Kentucky-born country singer, known for songs like “Coal Miner's Daughter,” became Massey's grandmother while still in her 30s.
Lin has six children and 26 grandchildren, including 24-year-old Emmy Russell, who appeared on “American Idol” earlier this year.

Married at 15, Lynn used her impoverished childhood as the foundation for many of her hit songs.
She faced her fair share of tragedy after achieving fame and fortune with her illustrious singing career.
Four of her six children preceded her in death.
Lin's eldest son, Jack Benny Lin, was found drowned in 1984 at age 34.

Meanwhile, the singer's eldest daughter, Betty Sue, who was also Massey's mother, died in 2013 from complications related to emphysema.
