Due to the wave of fires in Los Angeles and its surrounding areas, it was decided to postpone the announcement of nominations for this year’s Oscars by two days. Many members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences live in fire zones.
Voting for members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences began on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. for works competing for the industry’s most important awards – the Oscars. It was supposed to last until Sunday, January 12, at 17:00, and the candidates themselves should be officially announced on Friday, January 17. However, this will not happen. The Hollywood Reporter has obtained the contents of a message that Bill Cramer, the director of the Academy, sent to its approximately 10,000 members.

The Oscars were delayed because of the fire
“We want to extend our deepest condolences to those affected by the devastating wildfires in Southern California. So many of our members and colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area and our thoughts are with you,” he wrote.
The Academy decided to extend the voting period by two days to give members more time. It ends on Tuesday, January 14, at 18:00. Therefore, the date of announcement of candidates will also be delayed – they will be announced two days later than planned, on Sunday, January 19. This year’s 97th Oscar ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 2 (in Poland on the night of March 2-3).
Several other events scheduled for the next few days in Los Angeles were postponed or canceled due to the fire. The Academy of Fine Arts Museum remains closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
