Reuters reported, citing two Syrian intelligence sources, that Bashar al-Assad may have been killed. Syria's dictator died in a plane crash while trying to escape from the rebellion-torn country.
The Syrian Airlines Il-76 plane carrying President al-Assad took off from Damascus at about the same time the rebels took control of the capital.
At first it flew toward the coast, then made a sharp turn. After a few minutes, the machine disappeared from the public map. Reuters points out that it is not possible to be 100% sure that the dictator was involved.

“Two Syrian intelligence sources said President Assad likely died in a plane crash. It is unclear why the plane turned unexpectedly and disappeared from the map, according to data on the Flightradar website. '', the station reported.

“The plane disappeared from radar and likely had its transponder turned off, but I think it's more likely that it was shot down,” one Reuters source said.
About 40 minutes after taking off from Damascus, the Il-76 disappeared from the map near the city of Homs. According to the Flightradar application, the aircraft was descending at its last known location, 495 meters above the ground.
