Meghan Markle, who may have her eye on a political career in the near future, is being urged to be careful about her next move amid a tough environment.
The former MP revealed that public opinion of Harry and Meghan and their existence doesn't help anyone and could actually damage their brand.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who stepped down as senior royals in 2020 and moved to the US to build separate lives, should not take sides in the “polarised” race for the White House, former Republican MP Charlie Dent told GB News.
“In a polarized country, taking a side is not necessarily the smartest thing in the world when you're trying to take a stand for a cause that half the population finds unpopular or vehemently opposed,” Dent explained.
He added that most Americans “don't stay up all night worrying about what Prince Harry or Meghan Markle are going to say about American politics, or even British politics.”
Meghan is currently in the process of launching her own lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, which will also have a cooking show on Netflix.
Dent advised Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to “exercise some discretion,” given that the former “Suits” actress will need good PR and connections to promote her label.
“I was just in the UK a few weeks ago and it doesn't seem particularly popular there,” he said. “I'm not sure I want to do anything that will make me unpopular over here.”
Meghan Markle had already experienced a setback in the midst of launching her brand: According to the Daily Mail, four months after applying for a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, she received notice that there were “deficiencies” in the ARO trademark that needed to be “corrected.”
