Interior Minister Danilo Šaranović announced that Ako Martinović, the suspected perpetrator of the shooting that took place between Wednesday and Thursday in the town of Cetinje in southern Montenegro, died on the way to the hospital after attempting to take his own life. did. The politician said that shortly after the attack, a 45-year-old man tried to take his own life and died on the way to hospital. Martinovic is suspected of killing 10 people, including two children, and seriously injuring four others. Montenegrin media said the attacker was found near his home.

Montenegrin police chief Lazar Siepanović said the motive for the mass murder remained unclear and that the 45-year-old’s victims included friends and family. He added that the four injured people are currently in stable condition.

The shooting occurred on Wednesday afternoon at one of the properties on the outskirts of Chetinia. The tragedy was reportedly preceded by an argument between Martinovic and his friend. Montenegrin media added that the man had previously been detained for illegal possession of weapons.

Prime Minister Milojko Spažić has previously hinted at the possibility of introducing a “total weapons ban” in the country.
In response to the tragedy, Montenegro’s government announced a three-day national mourning period starting Thursday. Prime Minister Spazic called on other cities in the country to cancel all public events.
