NATO Executive Director Mark Latte said the talks are “very fruitful” and the US Secretary of Defense still hopes that the US will “become an “alliance”” with the alliance. He said he has made clear.

– There is a strong defense plan. We need to do more, we need to spend more on defense. We don’t have time to lose, our further freedom and prosperity depends on it – Latte said during a press conference summarizing the Minister’s meeting.
He added that they adopted a “updated” defense programme so that allies could respond quickly on both sides of the Atlantic. He also said one of the priorities is to strengthen Ukraine’s position and guide fair negotiations that lead to lasting peace.

-In order to achieve lasting and fair peace, rather than the next installment of the Minsk Agreement, it is necessary to secure Ukraine’s best position before negotiations. These were very fruitful conversations – Latte said.
Vladimir Putin’s “unpredictable” negotiator
The head of NATO also mentioned a recent report that negotiations are to be held only between the US and Russia without Ukraine’s participation. He ensures that this will not happen and both sides of the conflict must participate in the conversation. He added that he was not surprised by the conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, to show that it will occur before the presidential election in the United States.

-We must ensure that Putin understands that the West is united. Ukraine has all the support he needs to win (…). We need to confirm that the outcomes of these conversations need to be made clear to the whole world, not just in Pacific countries such as China, but also in countries like North Korea and even in Iran in the Middle East. The agreement is strong and the West will win, emphasized the NATO executive director.
While answering questions from the Latte journalist, he said he met Vladimir Putin several times when he was still the prime minister of the Netherlands. He acknowledged that the Russian president is a “strong and unpredictable negotiator” and that conversations with him can be difficult. -But in the end, if we want to reach a peace agreement, he has started a war, so he must join in it – the head of NATO said.
Pentagon Head: “Peace is related to restrictions”
Pete Haesther, the head of the Pentagon, also commented after the meeting in Brussels. The US Secretary of Defense said they need to get used to the idea that “Ukraine will not return to its borders by 2014.” He added that this approach demonstrates “a perception of the difficult reality of power on the ground.”
– After much investment and sacrifice, it’s time to realize that the negotiated peace is related to some kind of limitation, first on the part of the Ukrainians and on the part of the allies – he said.

American politicians also rejected accusations that such a statement would take Ukraine and its allies.
– The tough negotiations held by President Trump are underway. Presidents Zellanki and Putin understand the reality of winning on the spot. President Trump, as a negotiator, understands this dynamic. President Trump rejects the assumption that he is not dealing with the complete set of cards. On the contrary, he has all his cards in his hand,” Heggs said.
