North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan on Monday. The test coincided with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to Seoul.
According to Yonhap News, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that it detected “one intermediate-range ballistic missile” launched by North Korea.
North Korea conducts missile test
This missile test was also confirmed by Japan, and the Ministry of Defense announced that the missile launched at around 12:05 local time (4:05 a.m. Polish time) fell into the sea outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone. Kyodo News reported.
The last time North Korea launched a ballistic missile was on November 5, 2024. Since Donald Trump won the US presidential election on November 6, North Korea has stopped such provocations.

Monday’s missile test comes two weeks before President Trump’s inauguration, scheduled for Jan. 20, and ahead of outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s visit to Seoul amid South Korea’s political crisis. It was held on the day. This follows the imposition of six hours of martial law on December 3 by currently suspended President Chun Seok-cheol, who is facing impeachment and arrest on charges of coup d’état.
South Korean President’s Mission Currently chaired by Vice Prime Minister and Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok, he met with Mr. Blinken just before noon local time. The US diplomat emphasized America’s “unwavering” commitment to our national defense and called for close diplomatic and security communications to deter possible North Korean provocations.
