Three people were killed and at least four others were seriously injured in an accident involving a bus carrying 58 passengers on Thursday afternoon. The car skidded down an embankment and into icy water.
The incident occurred on the E10 road near Hadsel in the Lofoten Islands. Witnesses said the driver failed to maintain control of the vehicle, destroying the protective barrier and causing the bus to fall into the lake and partially sink. According to a police statement, road conditions at the time of the accident were dire. The snowstorm limited visibility, covered roads with ice and brought wind gusts up to 100km/h.
Rescue workers confirmed three people dead, and four injured people were declared in critical condition.

There were 58 people on the bus, most of them foreigners. Police said they were from India, Singapore, Malaysia, the Netherlands, France and South Sudan. The Chinese embassy in Oslo confirmed that at least 20 passengers were Chinese nationals, VG reported. There is no information that any Poles were among the injured.
Rescue operations continue. Helicopters from Tromso and Bodø and the Norwegian Civil Defense Force are participating. However, service personnel stress that the most important support was provided by local residents in extremely difficult weather conditions.

– Many civilians arrived at the scene of the incident much earlier than the emergency services. Nordland region rescue manager Lars Nedrevag told NTB that their actions at the scene were crucial for the lives and health of the injured.
A strong storm is passing through northern Norway. Up to 0.5 meters of snow could fall in the area where the accident occurred over the next 12 hours. Meteorological authorities warned that wind speeds could reach 100 km/h.
