Nuclear conflict? Five billion victims

– What I am interested in is that my political views are not revealed in my books. Because that's not what it's about. I want my readers to understand how dangerous nuclear war can be and what should be done to prevent it, says American journalist Annie Jacobsen in an interview with Jacek Tacik.
– North Korea attacks the USA. America is attacking Korea. An intercontinental ballistic missile should fly over the Russian soil, – the scenario plan of Annie Jacobsen, an American investigative journalist, the author of the book “Nuclear War. “Possible scenario” published in our country. – And even if we assume that the administration of the American president informs Putin that a missile is flying over the territory of his country, how can he be sure that – in this uncertain time – the Russian leader will believe it? Or will he not call it a bluff and use his nuclear weapons as well? – asks Annie Jacobsen.
Vladimir Putin announced that an attack on Russia by a non-nuclear-weapon state backed by a nuclear power would be a “joint attack”. This is a change in the nuclear doctrine.
But nuclear weapons are also part of Middle East politics. Iran is trying to get him. Israel threatens to retaliate.
Nuclear war – as the author proves – is not only a theory. The world was already standing in a nuclear crisis. It was during the Cold War. – The nuclear war plan prepared by the Americans envisages a full-scale attack on the Soviet Union and, more broadly, on the countries of the Eastern Bloc. Also to Poland. Jacobsen notes that an estimated 600 million people will die, a fifth of the world's population.
Jacek Tajik: Should Israel attack Iran's nuclear facilities?
Annie Jacobsen: Currently, there are nine nuclear states, that is, states that have nuclear weapons. Iran is – at least for now – outside of this group.
It all started with two countries: the United States and the Soviet Union, and today its successor is Russia. I don't think anyone can be convinced that the more nuclear weapons around us, the safer we are, not the other way around. This means that the more countries have access to nuclear weapons, the more likely it is to end up in a world-destroying nuclear war.
