A Boeing 737-8AS passenger plane made an emergency landing at Muan Airport in South Korea without extending its landing gear. As a result, the aircraft left the runway and burst into flames. There were over 180 people on board the ship at the time, and unfortunately at least 85 died.
At least 85 people were killed when a Jeju Air jet crashed into South Korea’s Muan Airport on Sunday. The plane had departed from Bangkok with 181 people on board, including 175 passengers and six crew members.
According to the head of the Muan City fire department, two people, a woman and a man, were rescued. They were taken to the hospital in moderate to serious condition. South Korea’s Ministry of Transport said the accident was the “most tragic” incident involving a South Korean airline in nearly 30 years.

According to preliminary information, the disaster occurred due to a failure of the landing gear due to a collision with a bird. The pilot attempted to land without extending the wheels, but the maneuver was unsuccessful. The aircraft veered off the runway, collided with a concrete fence and burst into flames.
The plane was destroyed. Only the rear of the machine remains in close to original condition.

Appropriate services are in operation at the scene of the incident. This incident is under investigation. Yonap News Agency reported that bird strikes and bad weather are considered the most likely causes of the disaster.
So far, all domestic and international flights at Muan Airport have been cancelled.

Jeju Air released a statement regarding the accident. “Our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones. Our thoughts are with the passengers and crew,” she said. Thai Prime Minister Pethunthan Shinawatra also expressed his condolences.
