Portuguese police reported that a 50-year-old Polish citizen drowned while swimming in the Atlantic Ocean near the coast of Pedrogao. His wife reported the man missing.
The Portuguese police announced that the tragic incident happened on Monday afternoon. His wife asked for help from one of the residents of the region about the disappearance of this man. Services were called into the water 30 minutes after entering the beach.
The port commander of Figueira da Foz, Pedro Cervaens Costa, said that shortly after receiving the news, two marine rescue units went to the location of the missing boats.
At the same time, local firefighters and police teams started searching for the missing person from the beach.

The body was washed ashore
After an hour of unsuccessfully searching for the 50-year-old man, his body was washed ashore by ocean waves near Pedrogao Beach.
“Resuscitation efforts by the rescue team present on the beach were unsuccessful and the man was soon confirmed dead,” Commander Costa said.
