Sylvia Singh, a spokeswoman for energy company OMV, confirmed in an interview with DPA news agency that Russia's Gazprom had completely stopped natural gas shipments to Austria on Saturday morning, as announced. The country is taking appropriate precautions.
– Austria's gas storage facilities are fully filled, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said. – We will not allow ourselves to be intimidated. No one is cold in winter.
The suspension of Russian gas supplies to Austria follows a legal dispute between Gazprom and OMV and an arbitration ruling by the International Chamber of Commerce that awarded OMV a victory in the dispute and awarded compensation of 230 million euros. This is the result of the response.
Russia has cut off gas supplies to Austria. What's next?
Austria is one of the few European countries to receive gas supplies from Russia. Other countries have also reduced imports since Moscow's attack on Ukraine in 2022. A total of 80 percent of Austria's gas imports came from Russia.

OMV has previously vowed to continue supplying customers with this fuel, having been preparing for an eventual cut-off of Russian gas for some time. He said it has long-term contracts with other gas suppliers and has transmission capacity from Germany and Italy. It can also receive liquefied natural gas from the Netherlands.
