Ryanair is seeking more than $15,000 in compensation from a passenger who disrupted a flight from Dublin to Lanzarote. The airline wrote that the traveler’s “unruly behavior” led to the unscheduled landing in Portugal. The flight was canceled overnight and 160 other passengers were deprived of a day’s vacation. Ryanair said this was unacceptable and began the refund process.
Ryanair, Europe’s largest airline, has sued a passenger for “disturbing the peace by unruly behavior” on board. The low-cost airline is demanding compensation of $15,400 (approximately PLN64,000) from passengers.
The airline announced the start of legal proceedings on Wednesday. The incident concerns the disruption of a flight from Dublin, Ireland, to Lanzarote, Spain, last year. Then, as Ryanair wrote, the passenger’s “unacceptable behavior” forced the plane’s pilot to reroute and land in Porto, Portugal.

“It is completely unacceptable for passengers who are working hard to enjoy a trip with family and friends to have that enjoyment taken away from them by the inappropriate behavior of one passenger,” the airline said in a statement.
The airline announced that it had filed a lawsuit in the Irish District Court seeking reimbursement for the cost of the delay, including accommodation, landing fees and other costs for passengers on the flight.
The person said the process was initiated as part of the company’s “zero tolerance” policy against such behavior. “We hope this action will deter further passenger disruption and allow passengers and crew to travel in a comfortable and respectful environment,” the airline said.
