On Friday evening, Parliament presented information from the Minister of Defense on a report published by a team of experts set up at the Ministry of Defense to investigate the activities of so-called “gangsters.” The Smolensk subcommittee is chaired by PiS politician Antoni Macierevich.
Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamisz said he expected the Law and Justice Party to “take responsibility for eight years of work on this issue.”
He said Macielewicz acted to “destroy the memory of the victims of the Smolensk disaster, destroy the national community and endanger Poland.” “This is a planned and well-prepared action,” he added.
Next, Deputy Secretary of Defense Jezary Tomczyk spoke. He said the team is made up of undisputed experts on, among other things: military or aviation audits; – This is more or less the opposite of what Macielewicz's subcommittee was – he said.
– On October 24, the Smolensk lie ended. With the publication of the report and the presentation of evidence that is clear day by day, everyone can draw conclusions, he said.
He added that the 800-page report was an “indictment against Masielevicz and those who collaborated with him.” Mr. Tomczyk also claimed that the Ministry of Defense, under Mr. Matielewicz's leadership, had taken steps to delete material related to the Jerzy Miller Committee, including the report prepared by the commission.
Tomczyk pointed out that “it was Jerzy Miller's commission that identified the cause of the disaster.” – And it was a collision with a tree, a terrain obstacle, the ground. And this is the result of the work, as you said, not of the Russian committee, but of the Polish committee, which is composed of Polish experts. Tomczyk referred to Macierewicz's claims about Russian influence on the activities of the Miller Commission, saying it was a Polish commission and a Polish investigation.
Discussion at the Smolensk Subcommittee. “Why aren't you sitting down yet?”
Tomczyk told Masielewicz that if he were Masielewicz, he would be very worried about what would happen to him. “My intuition is that the prosecutors will act very quickly because the 41 notifications they received are very specific and purposeful,” the deputy defense minister said.
– Today, people are asking the right questions, why are you still a member of parliament, and why are you not sitting yet? – Tomchik added.
At one point, the Deputy Secretary of Defense said: – We have been looking for the original Jerzy Miller Commission report for three weeks, but it remained only in the Prime Minister's office. It seems to me that the military police were simply not allowed to go there.
Macierewicz responded to his words with a smile. – You are laughing, but you don't know whether to laugh or not, said Tomchik. Later, the deputy head of the Ministry of Defense approached Matielewicz and showed him a letter addressed to the Prosecutor General.
“I wanted to show Congressman Macierevich this letter so he wouldn’t deny it,” Tomczyk said. PiS politicians did not respond.
– This is a letter to PK addressed to Antoni Masierewicz, which contains information, which I quote as follows: “A letter was sent to the representative of NIAR, and my letter In response, he stated that he did not have any of these items; despite the subcommittee's best efforts to date, “no debris from the plane was recovered.” This means that the Miller Commission and Polish prosecutors have irretrievably lost the evidence they obtained in Smolensk, Tomczyk added.
Macerevich says about Tomchik: “This is an action that benefits Putin''
Antoni Macierevich commented on Cesary Tomczyk's words.
– This propaganda of lies and deceit that has been passed down has only one role to play. He said it was a move that favored Mr. Putin and was aimed at ensuring that Poland had no right to investigate Russian crimes.
PiS MPs maintained that Tomchik's team did not have access to the Smolensk subcommittee's materials.
When Mr. Macierewicz exceeded the time limit for his speech, the chair, Seim Vice-President Dorota Nijela (KO), cut off the microphone. However, he remained on stage and continued his speech, telling Tomchik that the current government's intention was not to investigate the Smolensk disaster.
At the end of October, the Ministry of Defense published the conclusions of the report of the team that reviewed the work of the Smolensk Disaster Review Subcommittee, headed by Macielevich.
According to the report, the Smolensk subcommittee's work was conducted without credibility. The report was submitted to the National Prosecuting Authority along with 41 notifications.
