Prince William has expressed his grief over the death of his stepson’s nanny. Edward Pettyfer is one of the victims of the New Orleans attack. His stepmother Alexandra Pettyfer was a close associate of the young Princes William and Harry after the divorce of King Charles and the now Princess Diana. She often took time out to care for them during the holidays, and after the Duchess’s death, she helped her siblings cope with their mother’s death. William and Harry even attended her wedding in the late 1990s.
Britain’s Prince William released a statement on Platform X on Saturday about the attack in New Orleans, which the FBI is treating as an act of terrorism. In the incident that happened on New Year’s Day, several people were killed and many were injured. One of the victims was Edward Pettyfer.
“Catherine and I are shocked and saddened by the tragic passing of Ed Pettifer,” she wrote. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Pettifer family and all the innocent people who have been tragically affected by this horrific attack,” he said.
He supported the princes after Diana’s death
Edward, 31, was the stepson of Prince William’s former nanny and his brother Prince Harry. Alexandra Pettifer, formerly known as Tiggy Legge-Bourke, joined King Charles III’s current entourage in 1993 when she was the Princess of Wales.
She has been a close associate of the young princes since the divorce of Charles and Princess Diana. She often spent time with them during the holidays and cared for them, and after Diana’s death, she helped the siblings adjust to the loss of their mother. In 1999, she married security adviser Charles Pettyfer in a private ceremony in Wales, attended by William and Harry.
Before the prince’s post appeared, sources at Buckingham Palace told the BBC that Britain’s King Charles III was “deeply saddened” by the man’s death and was in contact with Pettyfer’s family.
The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office announced that it will help the 31-year-old family.
