A knife attack occurred at a school in Stara Ves Spiszska, Slovakia, near the border with Poland. Two people died as a result of this incident. The attacker was one of the students detained. At least several people were injured, one of them in critical condition.
The knife attack is said to have happened on Thursday in the town of Stara Ves Spiska in eastern Slovakia, next to the border with Poland. Mayor Jan Kurniawa, who was at the scene of the incident, has not yet provided detailed information.
“I don’t want to spread panic,” he told the media.

Slovak television TA3 reported that multiple medical rescue teams had arrived at the scene and police were working to secure the scene.

Two people have been confirmed dead and at least several others injured, one in critical condition. The portal of Slovakia’s Markiza station said that the victims were the school’s vice principal and one of the students. The culprit, an 18-year-old student, has already been arrested.
“We can reassure the public that we have captured a suspect in connection with the attack in Spiška Stara Ves who was on the run immediately after the incident,” police said on social media.
As we have stressed, all emergency services are on the scene and working intensively. The case is already being handled by the Organized Crime Unit.

One of the most tragic knife attacks in Slovakia in recent years occurred in Vrootky in June 2020. An armed man then entered one of the schools, killing one person and injuring five others.

The knifeman did not respond to the police’s commands and had no intention of surrendering, so he was shot dead shortly after. One of them was injured before officers opened fire.
Police later confirmed media reports that the attacker, a 22-year-old former student at the school, was from the nearby city of Martin.
