Sony appears to be quietly working on revamping its official PS2 emulator for its PS Plus premium offering on PS5 and PS4. In June, Sony introduced an improved emulator to port popular classic games to modern consoles, in response to long-time fan requests. However, the launch hasn't always been smooth, with games such as Sly Cooper plagued by technical issues.
Sony's PS2 emulator has made significant improvements, players say
A significant number of players have reported on forums such as Reddit that they've seen significant performance improvements in games like Sly Cooper and TimeSplitters, and while emulation is still not without its issues, Sony appears to be taking the feedback on board.
“I just downloaded TimeSplitters and am absolutely amazed at how well it runs,” wrote one Reddit user. “Sly Cooper has had a couple of updates since I last played it so I decided to give it another go and lo and behold, it runs a lot better than it did when it was released.” Others shared similar sentiments.
Tech experts at Digital Foundry said in June that Sony's emulation efforts were disappointing, as many of the issues PS2 games had have already been resolved by the retro emulation community.
