According to Reuters, 192 members of the 300-member parliament voted in favor of impeaching Han. The main opposition Democratic Party, which controls parliament, moved to impeach Mr. Han after he failed to immediately appoint three judges to fill vacancies on the Constitutional Court.

Shortly after, the South Korean National Assembly voted to impeach the president. The head of state is suspended from office pending a ruling by the Constitutional Court, which has a 180-day deadline. At that time, Prime Minister Han Deok-soo was to serve as president.
In the 300-member Diet, 204 members voted in favor of impeaching Jun. 85 members of parliament opposed it. Three members of the Diet abstained from voting, and eight votes were invalidated.
