We surveyed more than 630 U.S.-based undergraduate students. This year, for the first time, we conducted a survey of parents to understand their opinions on higher education. This report serves as a resource for campus leaders who want to make data-driven decisions regarding student engagement and retention, and as a guide for those who want to understand student and parent perspectives.
This report examines student and parent perceptions and expectations at every point in the academic journey. When we analyzed why students choose higher education, the factors they consider when choosing which campus to attend, and what helps them find a sense of belonging that is so important to their ultimate success, we found several key themes. It became clear.
Pave the way Find connections Focus on the future
In 2024, we find that there is much to celebrate in higher education. Campuses have made great strides in helping students overcome challenges related to mental health and overall well-being. When students are provided with more opportunities to make connections, such as campus events, clubs, and activities, they become more involved in campus life and feel supported by the campus. However, now is not the time to be complacent. There are still many opportunities to improve the student experience and ensure the long-term success of our students and campuses.
