Tomasz Siemoniak informed about intelligence activities regarding Syria
Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak said Polish intelligence services were monitoring events in Syria. A day earlier, the Polish embassy had called for people to evacuate the Middle Eastern country. On Sunday morning, rebels announced the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime.
“The Polish Intelligence Service, Foreign Intelligence Service and Military Intelligence Service, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense, as well as our NATO allies and European Union partners, are closely monitoring and analyzing events in the country. “We support Syria in the interests of Polish citizens living there,” social media's Tomasz Siemoniak said in a statement.
The Polish embassy in Syria, which has been operating in Beirut since 2012, called on Polish nationals to leave the Middle Eastern country immediately, citing the “rapid escalation of the situation.” Japan's diplomatic mission also “resolutely'' appealed to people not to enter Syria.
– We have not received any reports of Polish nationals requiring assistance or evacuation at the scene, – MFA spokesperson Paweł Wronski told PAP.

On Sunday morning, rebels from the Islamic group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham announced the “fall” of Bashar al-Assad's regime. The militants seized state television and government buildings in the capital Damascus.

Reuters reported that the Syrian dictator had attempted to leave the country. Meanwhile, the country's current prime minister announced a peaceful transfer of power. He also said that the new government will decide on the continued presence of Russian troops in Syria.

The Washington Post comments on the power grab in Syria and writes about US fears of Islamist rule. According to the paper, President Joe Biden's administration has described the overthrow of al-Assad as a “catastrophic success.”

But experts say the daily paper shows that the rebels have changed. Officials' concerns include pluralism and religious freedom after a change of government.
Russian soldiers remain on Syrian territory for now. The country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet commented on current events.
