October 19, 2011—Nashville, TN—Author, Journalist & Blogger, Sandy Lo will release her first hard cover book on November 22, 2011.  Lo has decided to package a special edition of THE DREAM CATCHERS SERIES, which will include all three parts of the series: Dream Catchers (2010), Breaking The Moon (2011) and Expressions (2011).  Now fans of the series will be able to get this collector’s edition in time for the holidays.  Sandy Lo will also be selling autographed copies directly from her website along with a copy of “Haley’s Letter”, the original song from Dream Catchers.  Details on pre-ordering the autographed edition will be on www.sandy-lo.com soon.

Jeff Timmons

Sandy Lo has made it known how much music has influenced her characters and plots.  To emphasize that, she is including a list of songs she listened to while writing THE DREAM CATCHERS SERIES, which ranges widely from 30 Seconds To Mars to Miranda Lambert.  To make this collection even more special, singer/producer Jeff Timmons, of 98 Degrees fame, has written the forward.  “Jeff Timmons has been such a big supporter of everything I’ve done over the years, just like I’ve been a huge fan of his,” says Sandy.  “To have him enjoy my novels as much as I enjoy his music blows my mind.  I’m honored to have him write the forward to THE DREAM CATCHERS SERIES.  He’s an amazing person and a gifted entertainer.” (Check out Jeff Timmons’ video message he made for the Dream Catchers book release party: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8yjxOvsnu4)

Currently, Dream Catchers and its sequel, Breaking The Moon are available on Amazon.com & Lulu.com in paperback and Kindle formats while Expressions is only available for Kindle/Ebook.

The series followed up the success of Sandy Lo’s debut novel, LOST IN YOU which she states in the acknowledgments was heavily influenced by her love for Timmons’ group, 98 Degrees and Backstreet Boys.

Lo announced earlier today on Facebook/Twitter that LOST IN YOU is now receiving distribution at barnesandnoble.com, Nook, and the Apple store.  “Being a self-published author is not exactly a straight shot to the New York Times Best Sellers’ List, as you can imagine,” Sandy explains.  “But I’m willing to work my way there, one sale at a time.  I’ve wanted to get my books on Barnes & Noble for a while, and with LOST IN YOU, that’s finally happened.  Hopefully THE DREAM CATCHERS SERIES will follow suit,” she says.  “I’m just thankful for every person willing to give my books a shot.  The support I have from friends, family, fans and some awesome entertainers is amazing and I appreciate every opportunity I’ve been blessed with.”

"Breaking The Moon" Released April 2011.

EXPRESSIONS Will Be the Third Installment of the DREAM CATCHERS SERIES Released Sept. 20th!

EXPRESSIONS Will Be the Third Installment of the DREAM CATCHERS SERIES Released Sept. 20th!

EXPRESSIONS is the third and final installment to Sandy Lo’s DREAM CATCHERS SERIES set to be released Tuesday, September 20, 2011 for Kindle and Paperback.  The book is a series of vignettes written from the point-of-view of various characters throughout the book series.  “This was my chance to give a voice to some of the minor characters like Jordan’s brother Drew and the infamous Bippy Reynolds,” explains Lo.  “If you enjoyed DREAM CATCHERS and BREAKING THE MOON, this is the perfect 50-page quick read to compliment them.”

DREAM CATCHERS was first released in January 2010 and garnered independent book sales for Sandy Lo, especially in New York and on Kindle.  “LOST IN YOU was my first novel and it put my name out there, but with DREAM CATCHERS, I’m still receiving royalty checks from Amazon and keep selling out of copies at book signings,” she says.

Sandy Lo followed the book up with BREAKING THE MOON, which delved deeper into the love story between Haley and Jordan and all of the complications that came along with it.  “Releasing a sequel is a slower moving process, especially since so many people still need to read DREAM CATCHERS, but the exciting part is the more people who read that first book come back and want BREAKING THE MOON, and I’m hoping they’ll want EXPRESSIONS as well,” Lo says.

Fans of TORTURED, the fictional rock band from the series, will be happy to know EXPRESSIONS will feature five never before seen song lyrics.  Originally, Sandy Lo wanted to record an entire album of Tortured songs with the help of friend, musician and songwriter, James Manzello.  “Unfortunately, James doesn’t have much free time these days and with no funding backing us, we had to lay that idea to bed for the time being.”

In November, just in time for the holiday season, Sandy Lo plans to release a collector’s edition of the entire DREAM CATCHERS SERIES.  It will be the first hard cover release from the author.

Earlier this month, Lo left her home state of New York to relocate to Nashville in order to write her next novel, THE WATCH DOG, which is set in Nashville.

Author Sandy Lo Releases Romantic Follow-up Novel BREAKING THE MOON

Author Sandy Lo Releases Romantic Follow-up Novel BREAKING THE MOON

New York author, Sandy Lo releases BREAKING THE MOON, a follow-up novel to 2010’s rave reviewed DREAM CATCHERS, which spawned the song “Haley’s Letter” penned by Sandy along with musician/actor James Manzello.

BREAKING THE MOON continues the journey of Haley Foster and Jordan Walsh, who are both at the brink of fulfilling their dreams.  Jordan’s band, Tortured is already a success before the release of their debut album while Haley is set to graduate college and begin her career as a respected photographer.

It’s been moonlight and road trips for the couple so far, but it all stops short when Haley finds out she’s pregnant, and Jordan discovers some secrets from his past.  Haley and Jordan’s love for one another is tested while they are catapulted into adulthood without a net to catch their fall.

Sandy Lo decided to write BREAKING THE MOON out of demand from her fans.  “All I hear from my readers is how they love Haley, Jordan and the band, and how they want to know more about them, so I wanted to give them more,” she says.  Don’t expect the same carefree humor that was seeped into DREAM CATCHERS, though.  Its sequel deals with some tragic issues, but Sandy assures her readers there are many uplifting times throughout the novel as well.

BREAKING THE MOON is in memory of Sierra Williams, the newborn daughter of Lo’s close cousin who passed away during the production of the novel.  Lo will be donating a portion of her book sales to First Candle in Sierra’s name.  For more information on First Candle: www.firstcandle.org.

Since the release of DREAM CATCHERS, Sandy Lo has merged StarShine Magazine into her website: www.sandy-lo.com in order to maximize her efforts as a writer and journalist.  The support received has been amazing.  Former 98 Degrees member, Jeff Timmons and pop star Aaron Carter have both publicly acknowledged Sandy Lo and her books on their Twitter accounts.  Jeff Timmons even sent Sandy a video to be played at the DREAM CATCHERS book release party last year.

Aaron Carter & Sandy Lo with two of her novels.

“It’s such a great feeling knowing I have the support of people I idolized and always promoted in StarShine Magazine.  I’m blessed that they have mutual respect for me and my art,” Sandy explains.

Sandy also interviewed Shannon Leto, founding member of her favorite band 30 Seconds To Mars last spring.  In the interview, Sandy told Shannon about DREAM CATCHERS and how the band inspired Tortured.  “I’m lucky enough to be in this amazing position in life that I get to pick the brains of my favorite music artists, and in turn, I’m inspired to create novels and even songs, like ‘Haley’s Letter’,” Sandy explains gratefully.

BREAKING THE MOON is available in paperback on www.lulu.com and on Kindle.

Procrastinating The End Of An Era

Procrastinating The End Of An Era

I’ve been whining and tweeting about finishing “Breaking The Moon” for a month or so now.  I will finish this novel and it will be tomorrow.  It’s like I said in one of my tweets: “Finishing a novel is like saying goodbye; that’s why it’s so hard to do”.  I think about Haley and how far she has come.  In “Dream Catchers”, she scratched the surface of who she really is.  She found her passion in life.  And in “Breaking The Moon”, she really grows up and learns how to forgive and understand and when to dispose of the crap that surrounds her.  Maybe some of you can identify with her more than others, but for me, she’s a piece of me.

When I wrote that first chapter during my first few months in college, I was like Haley in many ways.  I felt alone and suffocated by my parents and everything I knew.  I wanted to escape, but didn’t know how.  Writing stories and creating StarShine Magazine became my passion and they both opened up a new world to me.  They made me fall in love with myself…and I desperately needed to love myself at that time.

Then there’s Jordan…believe it or not, he’s me in some ways too.  Back when I was 18, he was more who I wanted to be like.  Now, I find myself in him in more ways than I thought.  I might not express my anger like Jordan does, but it’s there.  My childhood scars are very real, and though I laugh at many of them because sometimes you just have to–they still hurt, too.

I promise to write a book about that someday.  It will be based on my life, but not an autobiography.  It won’t be all moaning and groaning over a kid from the projects who was abused.  It will be about family–the love and the hate and the absurdity along with the comedy that comes with all of that.

But until then, you’ll see characters like Jordan who struggles with the past, but wants to rise above it.  And you’ll see characters like Haley, who keep quiet for too long

Sandy reading from "Dream Catchers" for the first time at Art & Music Night at The Cup in Staten Island, NY in 2009.

until she’s breaks free from the bubble her parents kept her in.  With all of this off my chest, I feel I can finally finish the last few pages of “Breaking The Moon”.  I feel good about giving you this insight tonight.  It’s an incredible feeling to have someone read your book and enjoy it, but it’s both frightening and comforting to have them understand where your characters are coming from: within yourself.

After the last chapter is finished, I will be going into heavy editing.  I’m hoping for an April/May release :)   Thank you all for your patience and support.  If you haven’t read “Dream Catchers”, please do!  It’s available on Amazon.com in Paperback ($19.00 US) and on Kindle ($6.99 US)!

BLOG: Starbucks Event a Success!

BLOG: Starbucks Event a Success!

The past week has been a bit crazy! Being a new self-published author, I obviously don’t make a living off of it. It’s no big secret that I work full-time at Starbucks. It’s not a bad gig, honestly. I have a flexible schedule and can transfer anywhere around the world if I wanted to! Working as a barista also gives me the opportunity to meet some pretty amazing people! Some of my close friends are or were Starbucks employees and some of my most loyal supporters are customers.

I was lucky enough that my store manager said YES immediately to the idea of having me sign and sell copies of “Dream Catchers” last week.  I was nervous for it.  This wasn’t like any event I’ve had before where it was strictly for my event with my friends and family attending.  I’ve only worked at the Starbucks in Hauppauge for six months, so most of our customers didn’t know that I’m a writer.

So many of them were so supportive and excited to buy an autographed copy of my book!  Even customers I had never seen before bought the book!  It was quite a successful day!  I was even asked by another Starbucks to have an event there in the future.  To make things even better, ever since that day, I’ve been selling books everyday at work!  I even had a couple of people finish “Dream Catchers” and tell me they loved it so much they ordered “Lost In You” online!  What an enormous compliment that is to me!!!

As you can imagine, this has motivated me to do more events, to promote more to new markets.  Well, a reader of mine in Spain (Mary), who’s a fellow BSB fan asked me to come do an event in Miami in December.  The Backstreet Boys’ cruise is leaving from Miami and Mary thought it would be a good idea for me to do an event for all of their fans!  The boy band in “Lost In You” was inspired by BSB, so there is relevance :)

Nothing is definite yet, but I’ve been looking into book stores and hotels in Miami.  I also contacted BSB’s publicist to set up a new interview while (if) I’m in town.  I’ll keep you posted on all of this!

Anyway, this week has been a bit rough other than the compliments on my writing.  Work has been busy.  Today was my only day off, but my brother is out of town so I’ve been helping my sister-in-law more with the kids.  I am excited for Halloween though!  I’m going to be a vampire.  Keeping it simple.  I’d love to hear what everyone else is going to be.  Post your costumes below!

Well, that’s all for now.  I will post my interview with Greyson Chance within the next few days.  Remember all things StarShine are now on this site.  Follow me on Twitter for entertainment news and updates on me: www.twitter.com/authorsandylo.  Thanks to everyone who’s supported both me and the magazine over the years!

Hugs, Kisses & Stars,

Sandy Lo

December 20th

The sound of a baby crying rang through my head like church bells tolling.  She was my baby; making the most beautiful sound I have ever heard though haunting at the same time.  The sound was shrill and consistent, as if the baby needed to be picked up.  Somehow I knew the baby was a she.  Daddy’s little girl.

I couldn’t find her no matter where I looked.  Times Square.  Battery Park.  Columbus Circle.  Every direction I turned was a mistake.

I was wandering New York City looking for someone I wasn’t sure even existed.  Every turn I made seemed to bring me further away from the crying.  The city was desolate; no honking horns, no tourists.  The lights of the buildings and streetlights were far too dim to be accurate.

I turned onto a dead end street and the last person I wanted to see was standing there; with her long, flowing chestnut hair and dramatic make-up.  She looked plastic.  Had she always looked that way?  Why was I ever attracted to someone like Bippy Reynolds?

“She’s gone, Charlie.”

Bippy used my birth name—the name I tried so hard to escape; my father’s name.

“Where’s my baby?”

I was frantic now as I stared at my ex-girlfriend.  The same ex-girlfriend who killed the life we made before it could even be born.

“What did you do to her?” I snarled with pure hatred.

“I did nothing,” Bippy smirked.  “Haley killed her.”

She laughed heartlessly at her statement before vanishing into thin air.  The baby’s cries stopped as soon as Bippy disappeared.

Her words made no sense to me.  Haley would never hurt someone intentionally—especially not an innocent child.  My girlfriend wouldn’t deceive me the way Bippy had.

Now, I could hear the sobbing of an adult.

Haley’s sobbing.

I turned around and she was sitting on the floor in hysterics.

“I’m so sorry, Jordan.  I can’t be with you anymore.”

I woke up startled.  My breathing was shallow and I turned to look at Haley lying next to me, thankful she was in my bed.  It was just a dream—no, a nightmare.  I wondered if there was any meaning behind it, but like I had told Haley when she kept having bad dreams about public nudity, it was just her anxiety.

Of course, her anxiety was obvious and on the surface.  She was afraid to stand up for herself and follow her heart.

I suppose I have anxiety, too, though I buried mine pretty deep; covering it with bitterness and brushing everything off with a swipe of my hand.

I will always feel a hole in my heart, knowing I could have been a father by now.  Somehow I thought having that child Bippy aborted five years ago would right all the wrongs my father did to me.  I would turn things around by being the complete opposite of a dad that Chuck Ashton was to me.  It was stupid, and I realize that, but my father and Bippy conspiring against me to secretly destroy my child will always cause me pain.

I placed my head down on the pillow and watched my girlfriend sleeping.  She healed my heart in so many ways and I’m so grateful for her.  I thought I was incapable of love.  Haley makes me feel alive inside, as much as I pretend to be on the outside.
