Jeff Timmons

Sandy Lo has made it known how much music has influenced her characters and plots.  To emphasize that, she is including a list of songs she listened to while writing THE DREAM CATCHERS SERIES, which ranges widely from 30 Seconds To Mars to Miranda Lambert.  To make this collection even more special, singer/producer Jeff Timmons, of 98 Degrees fame, has written the forward.  “Jeff Timmons has been such a big supporter of everything I’ve done over the years, just like I’ve been a huge fan of his,” says Sandy.  “To have him enjoy my novels as much as I enjoy his music blows my mind.  I’m honored to have him write the forward to THE DREAM CATCHERS SERIES.  He’s an amazing person and a gifted entertainer.” (Check out Jeff Timmons’ video message he made for the Dream Catchers book release party: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8yjxOvsnu4)

Currently, Dream Catchers and its sequel, Breaking The Moon are available on Amazon.com & Lulu.com in paperback and Kindle formats while Expressions is only available for Kindle/Ebook.

The series followed up the success of Sandy Lo’s debut novel, LOST IN YOU which she states in the acknowledgments was heavily influenced by her love for Timmons’ group, 98 Degrees and Backstreet Boys.

Lo announced earlier today on Facebook/Twitter that LOST IN YOU is now receiving distribution at barnesandnoble.com, Nook, and the Apple store.  “Being a self-published author is not exactly a straight shot to the New York Times Best Sellers’ List, as you can imagine,” Sandy explains.  “But I’m willing to work my way there, one sale at a time.  I’ve wanted to get my books on Barnes & Noble for a while, and with LOST IN YOU, that’s finally happened.  Hopefully THE DREAM CATCHERS SERIES will follow suit,” she says.  “I’m just thankful for every person willing to give my books a shot.  The support I have from friends, family, fans and some awesome entertainers is amazing and I appreciate every opportunity I’ve been blessed with.”

"Breaking The Moon" Released April 2011.

Author Sandy Lo Releases Romantic Follow-up Novel BREAKING THE MOON

Author Sandy Lo Releases Romantic Follow-up Novel BREAKING THE MOON

New York author, Sandy Lo releases BREAKING THE MOON, a follow-up novel to 2010’s rave reviewed DREAM CATCHERS, which spawned the song “Haley’s Letter” penned by Sandy along with musician/actor James Manzello.

BREAKING THE MOON continues the journey of Haley Foster and Jordan Walsh, who are both at the brink of fulfilling their dreams.  Jordan’s band, Tortured is already a success before the release of their debut album while Haley is set to graduate college and begin her career as a respected photographer.

It’s been moonlight and road trips for the couple so far, but it all stops short when Haley finds out she’s pregnant, and Jordan discovers some secrets from his past.  Haley and Jordan’s love for one another is tested while they are catapulted into adulthood without a net to catch their fall.

Sandy Lo decided to write BREAKING THE MOON out of demand from her fans.  “All I hear from my readers is how they love Haley, Jordan and the band, and how they want to know more about them, so I wanted to give them more,” she says.  Don’t expect the same carefree humor that was seeped into DREAM CATCHERS, though.  Its sequel deals with some tragic issues, but Sandy assures her readers there are many uplifting times throughout the novel as well.

BREAKING THE MOON is in memory of Sierra Williams, the newborn daughter of Lo’s close cousin who passed away during the production of the novel.  Lo will be donating a portion of her book sales to First Candle in Sierra’s name.  For more information on First Candle: www.firstcandle.org.

Since the release of DREAM CATCHERS, Sandy Lo has merged StarShine Magazine into her website: www.sandy-lo.com in order to maximize her efforts as a writer and journalist.  The support received has been amazing.  Former 98 Degrees member, Jeff Timmons and pop star Aaron Carter have both publicly acknowledged Sandy Lo and her books on their Twitter accounts.  Jeff Timmons even sent Sandy a video to be played at the DREAM CATCHERS book release party last year.

Aaron Carter & Sandy Lo with two of her novels.

“It’s such a great feeling knowing I have the support of people I idolized and always promoted in StarShine Magazine.  I’m blessed that they have mutual respect for me and my art,” Sandy explains.

Sandy also interviewed Shannon Leto, founding member of her favorite band 30 Seconds To Mars last spring.  In the interview, Sandy told Shannon about DREAM CATCHERS and how the band inspired Tortured.  “I’m lucky enough to be in this amazing position in life that I get to pick the brains of my favorite music artists, and in turn, I’m inspired to create novels and even songs, like ‘Haley’s Letter’,” Sandy explains gratefully.

BREAKING THE MOON is available in paperback on www.lulu.com and on Kindle.

2010 StarShine Magazine Music Award Nominees Diversify from new heartthrob Justin Bieber to old ones like Backstreet Boys along with Lady Gaga, 30 Seconds to Mars and Goo Goo Dolls

2010 StarShine Magazine Music Award Nominees Diversify from new heartthrob Justin Bieber to old ones like Backstreet Boys along with Lady Gaga, 30 Seconds to Mars and Goo Goo Dolls

The 8th annual StarShine Music Awards (SMAs) nominees has branched out this year to include more rock-based artists like multi-platinum selling acts 30 Seconds To Mars and Goo Goo Dolls, who go head to head for many awards like Album of the Year and Artist of the Year. Also up for the big honors are tween favorite Justin Bieber and party monster Lady Gaga. Bieber grabs the most nominations with 9, setting a new record for most nominations in a year.

What’s surprising is the Backstreet Boys being acknowledged for 7 categories with their latest, slightly under the radar release, This Is Us. “We choose nominees based on their presence on www.starshinemag.com,” explains founding editor, Sandy Lo. “The Backstreet Boys were at the foundation of StarShine when we began in 2001. It’s great to see now that we have popular, fresh acts like Gaga and Bieber that we still have readers that want BSB and Aaron Carter. We’re lucky to have such loyal readers, and these artists are even luckier to have such loyal fans who want to still see them in our magazine.”
Speaking of Aaron Carter, the now 22-year-old’s recent interview with StarShine, which received the most hits on the site this summer nabbed him 2 nominations for his recent efforts with two new songs available for purchase.

Breakout bands like Semi Precious Weapons and Neon Trees don’t go unnoticed with quite a few nominations split between them. Both bands appeared in StarShine earlier this year leading up to their recent radio and touring success. Other nominees include Landon Pigg, British sensation JLS, YouTube star Alexandra Amor and new Jive Recording artist, Matisse.

Voting will take place beginning November 15th at 12am (12am EST) on www.starshinemag.com, now located as a division of the all new www.sandy-lo.com . Polls will remain open until December 12th (11:59pm EST). Instructions to vote will be posted on the homepage. Winners will be announced in late December.

FREE DOWNLOAD: Jeff Timmons Album; Plus, Find Out Why StarShine Loves Him!

StarShine’s good friend Jeff Timmons called me recently to tell me about a new development in his career.

A free album!

Yes, we mean completely free!  Sign-up to receive this wonderful gift of music here: http://www.jefftimmons.com/signup.html.

And in the season of giving, make sure you pass on the link to your friends.

So why did Jeff Timmons, a man who is not having trouble obtaining a record deal, decide to release his music on his own, and for free?  With the industry going the way it is–free downloading sites like Lime Wire, music stores closing down, and record labels shelving most of their artists’ music for years–Jeff figured, why not?

“People can get the music anyway,” he says.  “I thought the record business needed something different.”  With his free album, Jeff hopes to achieve 1 million downloads and bringing change to the industry.  He’s already halfway to his goal!

Jeff’s free album campaign has taken the film industry’s inspiration by subsidizing costs through sponsors and product placement.  Most importantly, Jeff is hoping word of mouth, the oldest promotional tool in history, will be his best bet.  With the relationships he’s built within the industry over the years from 98 Degrees to his solo career, Jeff Timmons is just the man to accomplish this feat!

He’s humble, talented and innovative–not to mention a real artist.  Personally, I always specify that in my articles since oddly enough–real artists are hard to find nowadays.  Like many other people, I discovered Jeff Timmons and 98 Degrees in the ’90s–and musicially, he has remained a constant in my library–from disc mans to i-Pods!  In fact, I just whipped out my 98 Degrees Christmas album the other day, which I have done every year since its release in 1999.  The purity and natural ability of Jeff’s voice always makes me smile.

With that said, I look forward to hearing what he’ll come up with on his new solo album–especially some of the new dance tracks!

Now as StarShine Magazine’s editor-in-chief, I can say with confidence that Jeff Timmons will remain a constant on our website–and not just my personal library.  It’s always an honor to get to know an artist I’m a fan of.

So what are you waiting for?  Go to: http://www.jefftimmons.com/signup.html right now to receive Jeff’s FREE album!  What do you have to lose?

Jeff Timmons Wears Many Hats: Artist, Father, Producer, Mogul…Cruise Captain?

Jeff Timmons Wears Many Hats: Artist, Father, Producer, Mogul…Cruise Captain?

It’s been five years since StarShine caught up with Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees fame when he released his first solo album Whisper That Way.  Since then, Jeff has been devoting time to his two children and experimenting in the studio.  Oh, and there was that VH1 reality show, Man Band in the midst of all that.

“I did that show because VH1 promised a lot of stuff for when my solo record comes out,” Jeff says of the short-lived series that also featured former boy banders Chris Kirkpatrick (*NSYNC), Rich Cronin (LFO) and Bryan Abrams (Color Me Badd).  “I don’t think any of us on the show had the intention of forming a band. I think all of us sought opportunities for ourselves and of course, going into it, we all knew they were going to make us look bad and look like we weren’t successful. Not very many people watched it and pretty much everyone has forgotten about it.”

Jeff went on to say he thought the TV show portrayed him in a bad light.  StarShine had to agree.  Anyone who has ever met Jeff Timmons for even a few minutes knows he’s easygoing and friendly, not the difficult guy who wants to turn his back on something.

“I was talking about leaving, but of course they never put why I was leaving. They thought I was talking about leaving because I thought I was too good for the show and all that. But that’s definitely not the case. It was my daughter’s birthday and they were like ‘we’re not letting you see her’. They wanted us to look pathetic. That’s the risk you take being on a show like that. I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world. It taught me a lot. It stretched me and took me out of my comfort zone.”

Thankfully, reality shows are in Jeff’s past and big plans are in his immediate future.  He’s been working on a distribution company, called iamMedia, set to launch this fall.

“It’s a multimedia distribution company that capitalizes on point-of-sale real estate in high traffic stores. What that means is, basically with the way CDs are not selling–and it’s not necessarily because of downloads–it’s because they’re not available anymore in major retail chains. A lot of the record stores are closing. Wal-mart is kind of shrinking the space where they’re selling the CDs,” he explains.  “I’m going to be putting CDs in all different kinds of stores that don’t carry them. Taking elements of what works for Starbucks by putting CDs at the checkout counter and then putting them all over the country–grocery stores, convenient stores, truck stops, gas stations, high traffic clothing stores. We’re going everywhere.”

Along with four “very strong partners”, Jeff took the time to develop this concept, which will feature artist videos and commercials with the CD displays.  iamMedia already has a distribution deal with Universal Records, but also has the ability to put his own CDs as well as other independent artists in the display.

Coinciding with the launch of his new business, Jeff is releasing his sophomore solo album.  “It’s a little bit different.  With Whisper That Way, I just come off of 98 Degrees and just gotten married and kind of wanted to stay home,” he explains.  Always having a passion for working in the studio, he even helped out with producing on 98 Degrees’ albums, he wanted to try it out and get a feel for things on his first CD.  “That album came at a time when I was going through a lot of turmoil in my personal life. It’s kind of a dark, boring, slow album–not a lot of excitement. I’m very proud of it, but it was my first try.”

Now with the new album, Jeff says it’s a different story.  “I know how to use the studio, I know what I want to hear. I got together with some of my buddies and we just vibed in the studio, kicked back and had a good time and wrote whatever came to mind. If we wanted to have some fun, we might of had some uptempo clubby stuff. I’m rapping on some of the stuff. Playing all the instruments on a lot of it. It’s a lot of fun.”

Jeff assures his fans that they’ll definitely still be the 98 Degrees sound on some tracks, but also includes influences from Michael Jackson, old Motown groups and some Euro flavor.

Aside from slaving in the studio on his own album, Jeff has been producing for others like upcoming artists Tawny Heath, Victoria Hamilton and the rock band Out of Grey.

Jeff also has big ideas for his album release party–a Caribbean cruise!  He already has many people on board–literally–to take part in this unique promotional project.  Sponsors, press and celebrity guests are all going to be part of this televised event.  “It’s going to be something kind of never done before,” he says.  “It’s not something people are going to have to pay a thousand dollars to go on.  I’ve been getting so much support since I’ve been blogging about the idea.”  Jeff promises to send us all the details for this not to miss cruise party as he gets them, so stay tuned to StarShine!

The last thing we had to talk about with Jeff is his wonderful fans.  Being in the music industry for the past fifteen years, he has been able to see the way technology has changed his connection to his fans through Twitter and MySpace.  “I like keeping in touch with them. In the beginning, I would try to e-mail every fan back. Some of the other guys [98 Degrees] were like ‘you can’t e-mail every fan back’. I tried for a while, but then it got a little overwhelming. I like the ability to reach out to the fans and talk to them. I like to get a lot of input from fans. I think it’s fantastic.”

Finally, we asked Jeff what he’d like to say to all of you.

“I’d just like to thank everybody for all their support through the years. Get excited because this new music, it’s fresh and exciting. This new music is from the heart and from my friends. It’s not a contrived album. We hope to see all of you really soon on the tour after the album is released.”
