10 years ago in Brussels, the EU countries created a financial tool called “Connecting Europe Facility” – CEF (Connecting Europe Facility), which contributes to the construction of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T). A large part of the funds that enabled the construction of a new railway infrastructure in Poland were obtained here. CEF's financial support has facilitated the implementation of investments through which the railway network can develop dynamically. Modernized railway lines allow passengers to travel more comfortably and transport cargo more efficiently. The terms of use of CEF financial support mean that investment efforts in the field of railway infrastructure in Poland are focused on the modernization and expansion of the existing railway network, which is part of the TEN-T. Modernization works carried out with CEF funds, the main railway traffic junctions – Warsaw, Silesia and Krakow, as well as the most important points of production of freight transport in Poland – improving railway access to the seaports of Gdańsk, Gdynia, Szczecin and Świnoujście, and recently in the police. This made it possible to achieve a historical change in Poland, to allocate more financial resources for investing in railway transport than in road transport. Of the funds received by Polish beneficiaries from CEF support, more than 84% of the funds correspond to the implementation of projects in the field of railway transport.
