The first death of a police officer since 2010
This is the first death of an on-duty police officer in Norway in the last 14 years. In 2010, a 58-year-old officer died of stab wounds in Mo i Rana in the central part of the country. In 2004, Arne Sigve Klungland, the commander of the operation, was shot dead in Stavanger while chasing the perpetrators of the biggest robbery in Norwegian history.
The Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gar Storr, expressed his regret for the tragic incident near Jaeren. Justice and Security Minister Emily Enger Mell has set up a crisis team and deployed additional forces to investigate the circumstances of the shooting.
