Indonesia's Levotobi Laki Laki volcano on the island of Flores erupted at least three times on Saturday, sending a column of ash 9 kilometers into the air. Officials plan to expand the perimeter of the crater, which people are not allowed to approach.
On an island in the Small Islands, ten people were killed last Sunday as a result of a large volcanic eruption. Since then, authorities have been trying to evacuate 16,000 people from villages near the crater due to continued eruptions.
According to the Indonesian Disaster Management Agency, 10,700 people have been displaced from Saturday to Friday evening.
Mohammad Wafid, head of Indonesia's volcanology agency, said, “The eruption, accompanied by the eruption of hot lava and hot clouds in the west and northwest of Mount Levotobi Laki Laki, is still ongoing.”
They want to expand the evacuation zone
Reuters reported that the authorities plan to expand the area around the crater, where people are not allowed to enter. He now covers a distance of nine kilometers, which was eight kilometers before.
On Friday, there were several explosions and the ash plume reached a height of up to 10 kilometers.
