Mount Sinai will sponsor free and discounted community play in Long Island City and at Wollman Rink to celebrate unique partnership
NEW YORK, NY, Aug. 22, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today, Mount Sinai Health System announced a partnership with CityPickle in Long Island City and Wollman Rink in Manhattan, the home of pickleball in New York City, to bring joy, community togetherness and promote physical wellness through the popular sport of pickleball.
Through collaboration with the community, CityPickle aims to make pickleball, one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S., more accessible. With locations in Long Island City and Manhattan's Wollman Rink, CityPickle provides opportunities for people of all ages and skill levels to enjoy the game.
“Through our partnership with CityPickle, we are bringing the fun and community benefits of pickleball to the neighborhoods we serve,” said Dr. Cameron Hernandez, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of Mount Sinai Queens. “Mount Sinai is committed to promoting health and wellness, and fostering a sense of community through sports is an essential component of improving overall health and wellness. By offering free community play in Long Island City to New York City residents in Queens and beyond, and a discounted community clinic at Wollman Rink, we are providing individuals of all ages and skill levels an opportunity to come together, stay active, and experience the many physical and social benefits of pickleball.”
“As physicians, we understand the importance of physical activity and the role it plays in maintaining overall health. Pickleball is a suitable activity for all ages because it puts less strain on joints and bones than similar sports. We encourage everyone in the community to take advantage of this free opportunity to try out pickleball,” said Dr. Liisa Galatz, Reni and Peter May Chair of Orthopedic Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine.
“As part of our partnership with CityPickle, Mount Sinai experts will be on-site to answer participating athletes' questions and assist with their rehabilitation and recovery. By providing access to experts, athletes can learn how to prevent injuries so they can continue to play and enjoy their favorite sports for longer,” said Anthony Fernandez, Associate Director of Rehabilitation at Mount Sinai Queens.
“We are honored to partner with Mount Sinai to improve the health and well-being of New Yorkers. Pickleball is hugely popular because it is a sport that players of all ages and abilities can enjoy,” said Mary Cannon, co-founder and co-CEO of CityPickle. “Our partnership with Mount Sinai marks a groundbreaking moment as the first major health care provider to partner with a pickleball company for the benefit of recreational players,” said Erica Desai, co-founder and co-CEO of CityPickle.
