We have been training for different emergency scenarios for the past three months. Training begins to accelerate, so the mission itself will be more and more – said Slavosz Uznanski in an interview with TVN24 BiS. Qutb will fly to the International Space Station next year.
Polish scientist Dr. Slavos Uznansky is preparing to go into orbit. A flight to the International Space Station is planned for 2025. For the past three months, he was in Houston, where one of the stages of training on the way to the ISS continued. Now he is back at the European Space Center in Cologne, Germany. TVN24 BiS reporter Hubert Kizek observes the preparation of the Polish cosmonaut.
– This building is a bit like my home, because I started training here last September, – said Uznansky. – This week we went through the entire scope of training of the European Columbus module, which is located on the International Space Station. We had theoretical tasks and on Friday we received certification as users of this laboratory, – described the candidate for the second pole in space.
“We've trained for emergency scenarios”
As Uznansky said, in the American city from August to October “we mainly trained in various emergency scenarios.” – That is, how to fight a fire, what to do in case of air descent, what to do in case of ammonia from the cooling system, and how to save yourself from the space station, – he explained.
What if there was a fire on the space station? – We have to determine where it will take place. Our task is to inform everyone, find a safe place, account for the entire crew, and then put out the fire and restore a normal atmosphere in the station so that we can return to operational conditions, he said. He added that the ISS “has water extinguishers and carbon dioxide extinguishers.” Depending on where the fire is, we use different types of fire extinguishers, he added.
After Cologne there will be time for training in Japan. – There we will get acquainted with Japanese module systems called Kibō – said Uznansky.
Uznansky: training begins to accelerate
The AX-4 mission commander, American astronaut Peggy Wison, will be the first woman to command the ISS and the record holder for the longest time spent in space by a woman.
– He was a descendant of the astronauts who built the International Space Station. She has invaluable experience and it is a great pleasure to work with Peggy Wison. He brings us together as a crew, gives us his knowledge, and at the same time we train together, – he said.
The crew also includes pilot Shubhanshu Shukla from India and mission specialist Tibor Kapu from Hungary.

As Uznansky said, “the study will accelerate, so that the mission itself will be more and more detailed.” – I feel very proud and excited. I can't wait to get started, he admitted.
