More than 45,000 people have been killed in the enclave since the beginning of Israel’s operation in the Gaza Strip, which was a response to the brutal attack by Hamas. More than 108,000 people were injured. This is the latest information from local authorities. Those who were not killed or injured were mostly forced to flee their homes. Safety is very difficult – especially now that the temperature has dropped so much. There are other reports of infants dying from hypothermia.
Noura gave birth to twin boys less than a month ago. – In this despair, we have no choice but to ask for help and rescue. Rescue for children. I – an adult – can handle it. Noura al-Batran, the twins’ mother, says the children did nothing to deserve this.
On the night of January 29-30, one of the babies – Friday, died. – It was three o’clock in the morning, I woke up and asked my wife why she couldn’t sleep. She replied that she had been trying to wake up her sons for an hour, but they did not move. I started shaking them both. Friday was already white as snow and cold as ice, said the twins’ father, Yahya al-Batron.
Doctors revealed that the cause of the child’s death was hypothermia. His twin brother survived, but was taken to the hospital in serious condition. – I swear that I don’t have a blanket for myself. I covered my sons with me. I myself was shaking all night, says Yahya al-batran.

The sun and palm trees in the background may mislead you into thinking that it is not winter in the Gaza Strip. At night, the temperature drops to just a few degrees below zero. For displaced Palestinians living in makeshift tents, this is a mortal threat.
– In recent days, at least five children died in the Gaza Strip due to low temperatures. The body of an adult man was also found in one of the tents. Khalil al-Dakron, a doctor and spokesman for Al-Aqsa Hospital, says that the Gaza Strip is suffering from severe weather and about two million people are living in tents.
“No one notices us”
The cold is only one of the problems. There was heavy rain and strong wind in Gaza recently. In the same camp where Nura and Yahya live, dozens of tents have been flooded or blown up.
– Rain was gathering on the roof of the tent. It broke under his pressure. We woke up in the night to save things, but the water got into the mattresses and clothes, said Abu Ahmed Hassanian, a displaced Palestinian.
– We live here in cold and hunger. We have no clothes, blankets or blankets. It rained all night and the tarpaulins were leaking. No one notices us, concludes Samira al-Ashkar, a displaced Palestinian woman.

Israel says it has allowed thousands of trucks to deliver food, water and medical equipment to the Gaza Strip. However, international aid organizations are concerned that humanitarian aid is being blocked by authorities in Tel Aviv, deepening the crisis.
– We escaped the Israeli bombs and now we are fighting rain and floods in the tents. No one cares about us, we can only turn to God, says Sabrin Abu Shanab, a displaced mother of three children.
What about the agreement between Israel and Hamas?
This is the second winter since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas. Despite the difficulties, the hope of some Palestinians that the conflict will be resolved soon does not die down.
– A year has passed and we are starting a new year with the hope that we will live like people in other countries. We just have to live. We demand the right to life, only life, says Muhammad Wulud, a displaced Palestinian.
Low temperatures threaten displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip
Before the New Year, the administration of US President Joe Biden announced that he would do everything in his power to reach a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, and that it was “close at hand”. But both sides of the conflict blame each other for the deadlock in the negotiations.
“This is the end”
On Wednesday night, doctors in Gaza reported that at least 37 people, including 11 people in the camp, were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Khan Yunus. The Israeli army said it targeted a terrorist compound located in a humanitarian zone.
– What Israel is throwing at us are not rockets. This is destruction. I hope these people fear God, says Hamada Abu Taka, a resident of the Gaza Strip.
Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. This terrorist organization still has about a hundred of the more than 250 Israeli hostages that were kidnapped at that time.
