The families of the hostages in the Gaza strip are accompanied by hope, but also by fear and uncertainty. Relatives of Hamas abductees believe that the ceasefire agreement will come into force and their horror will end. At the first stage, terrorists should release 33 people. According to The Times of Israel, they may include two children, brothers Kfir and Ariel, who were abducted from Kibbutz Nir Oz.
Kfir was only 9 months old when Hamas attacked Israel. It is possible that he took his first steps in captivity and learned to speak. The boy was abducted from Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7, 2023 in an attack. Hamas terrorists also kidnapped his parents and older brother. Kfir celebrates his second birthday on Saturday.
– It’s like a helicopter. I can’t breathe. We don’t know if our loved ones are listed or even alive. We don’t know anything. It’s terrifying, says Yossi Schneider, a relative of the kidnapped Hamas hostages.
The Bibas family is one of the most famous hostages kidnapped by Hamas. Ariel and Kfir are the only Israeli children allowed into the hands of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas reported the death of the boys
In November 2023, Hamas reported that the sons and their mother were killed in Israeli shelling, but the Israeli authorities did not confirm these reports, and that is why their relatives held on to hope. According to Israeli media reports, the children are among a group of more than 30 hostages who will be released in the first six weeks of the ceasefire agreement.
“We are aware of these reports. (…) However, we have learned from previous experiences and disappointments, so this story will not end for us until our loved ones cross the border.” , – said in a piece from Bibas’s family. statement

About a hundred hostages are being held in the Gaza Strip. According to Israel, some of them were killed. The families of the abducted want an end to the horror that has been going on for 15 months.
– No one tells us anything. I hope a miracle happens and it turns out that my brother is alive, says Daniel Algarat, a relative of one of the hostages kidnapped by Hamas.
– The last time I heard about my brother was nine months ago, when Hamas published a video of him. He was 64 years old at the time, but he looked like he was 84 years old. He was very tired, said Lee Siegel, a relative of one of the kidnapped Hamas hostages.
The people of Israel are preparing to return the hostages
Ruth is waiting for her sons to return home, and since their abduction, she has been campaigning for the release of all the hostages. The last information he has about his children comes from November 2023, when people who were released during a short-lived ceasefire admitted seeing the brothers alive. According to Ruth, it is likely that one of her sons will be released soon, while the other – at least for now – will remain in captivity.
– I don’t know if they are together, although deep down I feel them. But when they separate them and say that one goes and the other doesn’t? – asks Ruth Strum, the mother of the kidnapped Hamas hostages.
Agam Berger, a violinist and soldier, is among the kidnapped Hamas hostages. A young woman was kidnapped just 24 hours after starting her job in the army.

– My cousin is a beautiful young girl who was in the hands of people who committed the worst atrocities against women in one day for 15 months. We know what Hamas did on October 7. The freed hostages told what happened to them in captivity. This is my biggest fear. I don’t need to go into details. I think everyone knows what I mean, says Ashley Waxman Bakshi, a relative of a hostage kidnapped by Hamas.
ZAKA – a religious search and rescue organization that aims to help abductees cope with trauma – is preparing to return the hostages to Israel.
– I think, first of all, we should help them to regain their dignity. We need to help them get back together and feel safe, says Vered Atzmon Meshulam, psychologist from ZAKA.
If the deal goes through, the first hostages will return to Israel on Sunday. Hamas is scheduled to release three people that day.
