As flash floods hit towns in southeastern Spain on Tuesday, people scrambled to escape the high water. Police have released footage from a nighttime rescue operation in Malaga province.
Heavy rains caused severe flooding in southeastern Spain on Tuesday. The water quickly flooded the roads, objects, buildings and swept away everything in its path. On Wednesday evening, authorities reported the death of about a hundred people.
The region of Valencia was the worst hit, but floods also caused heavy damage in Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia. In the province of Malaga, residents were evacuated by helicopter. The drama of the situation can be seen in the recordings of the rescue operation from Tuesday to Wednesday. The service searched underwater cities from helicopters using night vision cameras.
The first footage shows a group of several people taking shelter in a standing container. When they saw the helicopter, they pointed at it. A fire was burning next to them.

In another video, an ambulance can be seen in the middle of flowing water and rescuers are crossing the flooded area with a pontoon, trying to reach the trapped residents.

The night vision camera also captured, among other things, a man standing on the roof of a building and waving something at nearby rescuers.
