Since Wednesday, the suspension of Russian gas transit through Ukraine is one of the biggest failures of Russia, which uses this raw material as an energy weapon, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on the X website on Wednesday. He also pointed to the quick elimination of the consequences of Europe’s dependence on Russia and the “hysteria of some European politicians”.
Ukraine announced on Wednesday that it has suspended the transit of Russian gas due to national security. The Russian company “Gazprom” announced on the same day that it will stop exporting gas to Europe through Ukraine at 8 Moscow time (6 Poland time), when the term of the agreement on the transit of these raw materials expired.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi pointed out the current events in an entry on the X website on Wednesday that “As a result of equipping Russia with energy weapons and innocently blackmailing partners, Moscow lost one of its profitable and geographically accessible markets.” – he wrote.

faster elimination of the consequences of Europe’s dependence on Russia
Zelensky noted in this article that 25 years ago, when Vladimir Putin took over the presidency from Boris Yeltsin, the annual transit of gas through Ukraine to Europe amounted to more than 130 billion cubic meters. “Today it is zero”, emphasized the President of Ukraine.
He also called on European countries to jointly support “Moldova in the energy transfer process” and expressed hope for more American gas deliveries to Europe. “We need to overcome the hysteria of some European politicians who prefer mafia deals with Moscow to a transparent energy policy,” he said.
According to Zelensky, the greater amount of gas available on the market from “true European partners” will help to quickly eliminate the last consequences of Europe’s dependence on Russia.
