Among the players released Tuesday as teams across the league trimmed rosters to reach regular-season capacity were three Auburn University graduates selected in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Defensive back Jaylin Simpson was a fifth-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts, cornerback DJ James was a sixth-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks and defensive tackle Marcus Harris was a seventh-round pick by the Houston Texans.
They were among 13 former Auburn players who were fired on Tuesday. Three more former Auburn players were fired.
NFL teams were required on Tuesday to cut their preseason rosters from 90 players to the regular-season roster limit of 53.

They join wide receiver Seth Williams (Paul Bryant), who was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, and defensive tackle Angelo Blackson, who was released by the Denver Broncos on Monday.
Waived players can be claimed by any other team in the league by 11 a.m. CDT on Wednesday. Waiver claims will be processed in the same order as the 2024 NFL Draft before any trades are made.
Waived players are unclaimed and are free to sign with any team. Released players do not have to go through the waiver process.
NFL teams can begin assembling their 16-man practice squads on Wednesday afternoon. Practice squad players will work during the week just like active roster players, but they are not eligible to play in games, with one exception: NFL teams can promote two players from their practice squad to the active roster per game.
