Tomas Jakubiak, the judge of the “MasterChef” program, recently admitted that he is suffering from a rare cancer. In the report “Dzień Dobry TVN” he and his wife talked about their daily struggle with this disease and how it changed the life of the whole family.
“The worst thing about this disease is the so-called weak days that come from nowhere, you don't know when and it's so boring that you get dizzy,” Yakubiak admitted. As he said, he usually starts the day with his wife Anastasia with breakfast. He prepares food for her even though he cannot eat with her. “Every morning we try to plan the rest of the day,” he explained.
– At first, it was very painful for me that every morning I had to be tied to my stick (special equipment used by the chef in treatment – editor's note) and I could not leave the house for several hours. It was very difficult because I couldn't take my child to kindergarten, I couldn't go for a walk, I couldn't have coffee with my friends in a pub. But then the psychologist explained it to me and said: a man who has so much time every day to spend time with his wife, to have breakfast together, to cook, – he continued.

He also said in front of the camera: – He is very strong from the outside and wants to show everyone that he is fighting. But when we get home, the instability, anxiety, fear and everything that seems to be reflected, I don't say, but he piles it all on me and talks to me more about it.
– I carry my burden, the burden of Tome and Tomas, so I have to manage all these emotions, – he added. she also mentioned that her husband uses psychological support and a psychologist.
“Tomek was in danger of starvation”
Yakubiak said that “his situation was already very difficult”. “It got to the point where I couldn't go from the bathroom to the bedroom,” he said.
His wife recalled that the doctor had informed them that if the chef did not start parenteral nutrition, “at some point Tomek would starve to death.”
– All my ribs are open (…). Today, when I looked at myself in the mirror, when I got into the shower, I saw my sagging chest, I saw my stomach and everything, I was just… I was ashamed to cover myself in front of my wife, – admitted Yakubyak.
Specialist help in Warsaw clinic. “We have to support this part with all our strength”
Tomasz Jakubiak was supported in the fight against this disease in the Department of General Surgery and Clinical Nutrition of Orlowski Hospital in Warsaw.
Head of the clinic, candidate of medical sciences. MD Jacek Sobocki noted: – When we prepare nutritional food for the patient, we must try to understand what the body needs.
The nutritionist who works at this institution, Philip Biernacki, explained that “the mixtures are personalized, so each bag should be different, with a different composition, adapted to the needs of the patient.” – Then they are taken to patients mostly all over Poland, – he said.
– We do tests, improve the diet until it is so good that he can go home with it – added Sobocki.
The doctor also paid attention to the difficult conditions of the hospital. He emphasized that there is often a lack of space and sometimes patients are sleeping in the corridors.
Yakubyak therefore appealed to the court. – We need to support this link with all our strength and explain it publicly in a simple way, because it is shameful, – he said.
The judge of the culinary program also made another appeal earlier. He appealed to his fans through Instagram and asked for financial assistance for treatment. “Fighting this disease is a big challenge – physically and emotionally. My goal is to win this fight so that I can enjoy life with my loved ones and do what I love. Without financial help, I cannot cover the expensive treatment. Any donation, even the smallest will bring us back to health.” He also shared a link to the collection at Szczny-cel.pl/z/tomekjakubiak.
