Why are Christmas trees and decorations with the words “Merry Christmas” on them becoming more and more common?
Turks love to adopt American culture
American products are popular in Türkiye. Holidays are celebrated with great fanfare in foreign film productions. Popular VOD platforms have no shortage of titles on topics like this. Turks observe them, borrow selected traditions and adapt them to their own needs.
They don't care that they are Muslim and don't celebrate Christmas. For them, the traditional Christmas tree has a completely different meaning. For the average Pole it is a symbol closely associated with the celebration of religious holidays, but for Turks it is an element of entertainment. This means that Christians traveling abroad to the Bosphorus may find it very difficult to find their way over the Christmas and New Year period.
Turkish new year tree
The Turkish Christmas tree has taken on a whole new meaning. Decorated trees are a traditional New Year element in this country. That is, in December and January, you can see decorated Christmas trees and even palm trees with Christmas decorations on the streets of Turkey.

Turks do not care about Christmas inscriptions and holiday proverbs at all. The most important thing for them is the aesthetics of the decoration and the fact that it adds a unique atmosphere to the urban space on the day of saying goodbye to the old year and welcoming the new one.
