WASHINGTON, DC – June 25, 2024 – U.S. News & World Report, the global authority on education rankings and consumer advice, today released its 2024-2025 Best Global Universities rankings, evaluating more than 2,250 universities based on academic research and reputation.
This latest edition includes universities from over 100 countries. The countries with the most schools in the overall ranking are:
China: 396 US: 283 Japan: 112 India: 109 UK: 96
“The Best Global Universities rankings provide a starting point for students to compare universities around the world, universities in their own region, and even by specific fields of study,” said Dr. Lamont Jones, education editor at U.S. News. “Now in its 10th year, the rankings have expanded to include more schools and more fields of study, focusing on institutions that prioritize academic reputation and cutting-edge research.”
Four new subject rankings have been added in this edition: Ecology, Green and Sustainable Science and Technology, Environmental Engineering, and Marine and Freshwater Biology.
Powered by Web of Science™ data and InCites™ indexes provided by Clarivate™, a leading global provider of transformative information, the Best Global Universities methodology emphasizes factors that measure a university's global and regional research reputation and academic research output. The overall ranking includes bibliometric indicators such as publications, citations and international collaborations. Each of the 51 subject-specific rankings is weighted based on the academic research output in that particular field.
