New Orleans tragedy. A speeding car plowed into a crowd in the French Quarter area, CBS News reported. The driver then got out of the car and began firing shots, police said. Ten deaths have been confirmed so far.
The incident occurred Wednesday morning on Bourbon Street, a popular tourist destination. Witnesses who spoke to the media said the vehicle crashed into people at high speed, before the driver got out and pointed a gun at the crowd. The police fired back.

Thirty people have been taken to hospitals so far, according to city officials. At least 10 people were announced dead.
– Initial reports indicate a car may have hit a group of people. A New Orleans Police Department spokesperson said there were unknown injuries, but there were also reports of fatalities.

Emergency services are on scene. They asked those at the scene to put away their cellphones and leave the area as soon as possible.
According to CNN’s account, the incident occurred just hours before the scheduled Sugar Bowl game.
