A New York court has found President-elect Donald Trump guilty in Stormy Daniels’ hush money case. At the same time, the convicts were ordered to be released unconditionally. This means that the court found Trump a criminal but did not impose any additional punishment. The ruling was handed down 10 days before Trump was inaugurated as US president.
President-elect Donald Trump was found guilty in a New York court on 34 counts of falsifying business documents, according to Reuters.
As the court found, this was intended to conceal payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. The incident became famous in the public sphere under the slogan “Pay the price of silence.”
The verdict issued by Judge Juan Melchan on Friday concludes the first-ever criminal case against a former US president. The judge acknowledged that the decision was one of the most difficult for a judge and said his verdict was influenced by the “special legal protections of the office of president.”

The judge also decided to release Trump “unconditionally.” This means that although the president-elect was formally found guilty in the first instance, he did not receive a prison sentence, suspended sentence, or fine.
“However, this does not diminish the seriousness of the crime and does not in any way justify the conduct,” the judge added.

Trump has pleaded not guilty and announced that he will appeal the verdict. He was not in the room but spoke remotely.
“This was a political witch hunt,” Trump said. “It was done to damage my reputation so that I would lose the election, but of course it didn’t work,” he added.
The decision was made 10 days before he was sworn in as President of the United States. The ceremony will be held at the National Diet Building on January 20th.
