On Saturday, the caravan carrying Jimmy Carter’s casket left the Plains for Atlanta, Georgia. A private farewell ceremony was held at the Carter Center, the humanitarian and diplomatic center founded by the former president.
During the service, he said, among other things: Grandson of former President Jason Carter. Although he was prepared for his grandfather’s death, he said, “It’s still difficult.”

“As we mourn the loss of my grandfather, I know in my heart, and I know you do too, that his legacy will live on,” he said. “I think for many people in this country he was a symbol of love and respect,” he added.
Page Alexander, director of the Carter Center, told the BBC that the former president should be remembered for his “honesty and integrity”.

The casket containing President Jimmy Carter’s body will later be transported to the state Capitol, and those wishing to pay their respects to the former president can do so through Tuesday.

Jimmy Carter’s body will be delivered to Washington on the morning of January 7th, and a memorial service will be held at the Capitol in the afternoon. The casket containing the late president will be on public display until Thursday.
On Thursday morning, former presidents and senior government officials will gather at the Washington National Cathedral for a state funeral. President Joe Biden pays his condolences. On Thursday afternoon, Carter will return to his hometown of Plains, Georgia. A secret burial ceremony and burial will take place there.
