Jimmy Carter’s hearse was accompanied by a motorcade in Atlanta on Saturday, beginning six days of memorial services for the 39th president of the United States. The casket is on display at the Georgia State Capitol.
The motorcade left the hospital in Americus and headed for Atlanta, Georgia, where a private ceremony will be held at Carter St., a humanitarian and diplomatic center founded by the former president. Along the way, traffic stops in Carter’s hometown of Plains. Later, the casket will be displayed at the Atlanta State Capitol to allow citizens to pay their respects.

A few days of the funeral
The march kicked off six days of commemoration of the president, who died on December 29 at the age of 100. On Tuesday, Carter’s body will be flown to Washington and laid on display at the Capitol. A state funeral will be held at the National Cathedral on Thursday, with President Biden and his living predecessors in attendance. Afterwards, during a private funeral in Plaine, Carter is buried in the family plot next to his wife, Rosalyn.
Jimmy Carter was the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981. In 2002, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
