A week before the presidential election, the FBI prevented an assassination attempt on Donald Trump by Iran. This was reported by the US Justice Department with reference to Reuters.
According to the ministry, in September of this year, an officer of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, whose name has not been mentioned, ordered one Farhad Shakeri to track down and then kill the candidate of the Republican Party for the position of president.
The client, who was convinced that Trump would lose the election, argued that if the attack did not happen before the election, it should be done later, when the defense of the (losing) candidate would be less strong.

Contacts were established in prison
The Iran International website claims that Shakeri is most likely in Iran, while two of his accomplices, who are accused of planning an attack on an Iranian opposition journalist in America, are being held in New York.
Shakeri immigrated to the United States as a child, but was deported in 2008 after being convicted of robbery and serving several years in prison. Contacts in prison allowed him to find potential contractors for the Revolutionary Guard order.
Attorney General Merrick Garland emphasized Iran's threat to key figures on the American political scene. “The indictments announced today expose Iran's continued brutal efforts to target American citizens (…) and dissidents critical of the Tehran regime,” he said.
