An avalanche swept away a snowmobile in Utah. According to the Avalanche Center, this incident happened during the trip of two brothers – one of them was accidentally snowed in and his brother died. Fortunately, the men had the right equipment and escaped the trap.
The incident happened on Wednesday in the Uintah-Wasatch-Cash National Park in the northern part of the state. Two brothers went on a snow trip. One of them, while going down the slope, noticed that the ground around and under him was “broken” and the snow was moving a little.
Difficult conditions
The man ran away from the approach of the avalanche and immediately ran to the side of the slope. His brother was less fortunate, standing next to his scooter down the slope. The avalanche took him down almost 140 meters and buried him completely.
My brother came to help the buried man and used an avalanche transceiver to locate him. When he approached the place indicated by the device, he noticed that the fingers of one hand were sticking out of the snow. The buried man was rescued – as it turned out, he suffered only minor injuries.
The Utah Avalanche Center said the incident could have ended tragically had the men not been equipped with the proper equipment. Forecasters have warned that favorable conditions for avalanches are still expected in the coming days.
