A tourist couple was killed while staying in a hotel in one of Vietnam’s coastal cities. The service has not yet determined the cause of this dramatic event. There were no signs of forced entry, and the bodies showed no signs of external factors contributing to the tragedy. The British Foreign Office commented on the matter, as the 33-year-old is from the British Isles.
It was supposed to be a beautiful period in the lives of 33-year-old British Greta Marie Ottenson and her South African partner Else Arno Quinton, who is three years older than her. Just 15 days before her body was discovered, a video of the two announcing their engagement was released. The lovers went to Vietnam, where they spent several months applying for long-term residency rights.
Staff at the hotel in the city of Hoi An, on the South China Sea, learned of their deaths on December 26. The woman was in a room on the first floor, and the 36-year-old’s body was found in another room that was supposed to have been locked from the inside.

Preliminary examination revealed no signs of external force on the body. Additionally, there were no signs of unauthorized entry into the room where the deceased couple were found. According to local media, only a few empty wine bottles were found. Investigation is ongoing.

The BBC reported that the Foreign Office in London was in constant contact with Vietnamese authorities. “We support the family of a British woman who died in Vietnam,” a British diplomatic spokesperson said.
Poisoned alcohol in Laos. some people have died
The deaths in Hoi An are not the only tragedies among tourists in the region in recent months. In November, we reported that a tourist died of methanol poisoning in Laos, just across Vietnam’s western border. The victims drank locally branded alcoholic drinks served in Vang Vieng.
A 19-year-old Australian, 20 and 21-year-olds from Denmark, a 57-year-old American, and a 28-year-old British woman lost their lives this way. Some of those who died were served drinks at Nana Backpacker Hostel. Lao authorities banned the sale of suspicious products.
