Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced that it shot down eight ATACMS missiles fired by Ukraine. Earlier, Moscow responded to a similar use of a US-made missile and threatened hypersonic retaliation against central Kiev. The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on these reports.
Russia said Saturday it shot down eight U.S.-supplied ATACMS missiles, which the Russian government warned could trigger a hypersonic missile attack on central Kiev.
“Air defense systems shot down eight US-made ATACMS missiles and 72 unmanned aerial vehicles,” the Defense Ministry said online, without providing additional information.
The Moscow Ministry reported that Russian forces also carried out airstrikes on targets in Ukraine.
“The operational and tactical aviation, attack drones, missile units and artillery of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will destroy the infrastructure of military airfields, assembly plants and storage areas of attack drones, as well as enemy manpower and military concentrations. We have deployed equipment in 132 areas.”
According to the report, since the start of the war, the Russian military has destroyed 651 planes, 283 helicopters, more than 39,000 helicopter unmanned aerial vehicles, 590 anti-aircraft missile systems, more than 20,000 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, 1,506 multiple missile systems, more than 20,000 field artillery and mortars, and almost 30,000 guns.
