The relationship between the four Ukrainian women was explained by the UK’s Daily Telegraph. A horrifying picture of life in Russian prisoners emerges from their stories.
“Their testimony reveals the atrocities that captured the Ukrainians and proof that the occupyers committed war crimes,” we read in the article.
“It was an inhumane treatment. We were no one to them.”
It was 53-year-old Larys who decided to talk about his experiences. The woman who served in the Ukrainian National Guard was captured in 2022 in Mariupol, which was occupied with her husband and 34-year-old son. The family was published by a pro-Russian neighbour.
Larisa spent seven months as a Russian prisoner. Her explanation shows that the imprisoned woman was forced to stand up for a purpose of 12 hours a day. They were also forced to undress naked and walk naked in the snow. However, this is not the end.
– They led us in the shower with a bag on our heads. (…) We had to get naked in front of the guards. And finally, ice water was waiting for us – 53 -YEAR -OLD explained.

– We were also forced to sing the Russian national anthem naked. We were totally desperate in a state of hysteria…it was an inhumane treatment. We weren’t there for them – she added.
The woman also said she was whipped with a metal rod, but her medical assistance was subsequently denied. -We were still told that if we were fascists and our people didn’t kill us during the exchange, someone else would do it – she recalled.
Larisa’s husband and son are still in captivity. – I want to tell them they love them. I was captured for seven months, but I can’t stand it that they were there for three years – summarizing the 53-year-old old.
“I was ready to die.”
Walentyna, 30, was another woman who decided to share her traumatic experiences. A Ukrainian woman who worked as a military paramedic was captured during Maripol’s defense and spent 5.5 months in captivity.
Her explanation shows that there were 15 locked women in the cell that was intended for two. Furthermore, the cell had no toilets and the food was “sufficient to not die in the voice.”

Furthermore, during interrogation, the Russians beat and tortured the woman by keeping her by electricity. – All the guards tried to attack us as we were passing by. We were beaten badly for no reason. They just beat us, Warintina remembered.
– I was ready to die. I agreed to that – she added.
“Sleeping was impossible for days.”
Another woman who interrupted the silence and decided to talk about her drama was Sunijana, 23. The women who served in the 56th separate mechanized brigade fought in the defense of Mariupol and Huta Azoustal. Captured in July 2022.
The 23-year-old also spoke of the torture he was captured. “I would have put me into electricity when I was questioning, if I answered in a way that they didn’t like,” she said.
Her explanation shows that women are forced to do an incredible number of exercises, and when they fell out of fatigue they were beaten by security guards.

-We fell to the ground and we were punished for it (…) We were forced to sing Russian hymns and march in the cold for hours – She added. The Russian national anthem was also released from speakers placed for purposes at night, so “sleep was impossible for days.”
– The guards directly said that they would only feed us so that we would not die. It was as if they kept us alive and nothing more. They slowly tried to lift their heads – she added.
Her explanations also show that security guards often threatened her with a knife and took her outside to show where they would “bury her body” after killing her. They also spread the forged news about Ukraine’s defeat and told her there was no chance of release.
“My whole body was blue.”
Rudmiwa, a 61-year-old human rights activist, was captured before a full-scale invasion, but also told journalists.
The Russian arrested her in 2019 and was jailed for over three years. The woman said she was sexually harassed by security guards and witnessed rape of another captured woman.
-The bag on my head began to fall, so they caught him and clenched my neck, and I began to suffocate. It was the first sensation of pain and fear. They put me back on the wall and demolished it. Someone touched me and then there were a lot of hands. They commented, laughed, pinched, touched every hand around them – she reported.

The woman, like other prisoners, turned her attention to the scandalous hygiene she won for her purpose. She also said she stands 12 hours a day.
“I couldn’t stand it, my back hurts so much… I thought that lying down for 10-15 minutes wouldn’t happen,” she said. The guard then quickly ran into the room, one of them grabbed the woman with her feet and fell from the berth to the concrete floor.
– I fell and they began kicking me. When I took it off, I found out that my body was all blue – reminding me of Ludmira.
– A terrible scream was heard. I heard people’s heartbeats and screams. It was so scary that even when I was beaten myself, it wasn’t as bad as hearing it – she concluded.
