According to the news of the conservator of the Masovia Voivodeship, the renovation of the former Zepeliya pavilion on Marchalkovska street is coming to an end. After all the work is completed, Empik enters the building. “The pavilion will be put into use in December,” informed the conservator.
“Conservation work on the ceramic coating of Stanislav Kucharsky has already been completed. As a historical witness, a piece of the old tin coating of the facade with the Cepelia logo was installed inside the pavilion, which gives an image of the original standard of decoration of the building,” announced the Provincial Conservator of Monuments. Mazovia on social networks.
He also noted that the finishing works of the facades are ongoing. He explained that the aluminum sheet was manufactured for investment needs and profiled according to the original. “Based on the instructions of the conservator, it was decided not to paint it, thanks to this pavilion it will regain its raw aesthetic expression, typical of the projects of the 60s, and over time it will develop a natural patina,” said the conservator.
In turn, around the pavilion, showcases and small architecture will be restored in the form of lawns and retaining walls finished with coarse-grained terrazzo. As “Gazeta Stoletsna” found out, a green area will be built at the current station between the pavilion and the Metropol hotel.

Light construction, large windows
The pavilion was designed by the famous architect Zygmunt Stepinski and built in 1966. The structure had a light steel frame and an almost entirely glass facade, with the first floor floating in the air. The entire project is based on the concept of commercial and service buildings that merge with the street. For decades, the building housed a shop that offered handicrafts made by Polish folk artists.
Over time, Cepelia gave way to other shops and service points. The tin facade was covered with orange clothes. There were also large-scale advertisements, as well as pseudo-graffiti and bohemian paintings on the tiles. After the last tenant moved out, nothing happened in the ruined monument for several years.

When will the Empik store reopen?
The development took place in February of this year. The long-awaited renovation has begun. Who was moving into the building was a mystery at first. Only at the beginning of May, Empik announced that the monument will house a three-story bookstore of the chain, along with a stage for cultural events and meetings of authors.
The new Empik store will fill the void of the flagship store that was located in Novi Šviat for more than 70 years. The company left in 2022 because it did not agree to a significant rent increase. Since then, the apartment has been empty.
We asked Empik about the exact opening date of the new showroom. The spokesperson of the company, Monika Marianovic, asked for patience. – We will reveal the specific date of the opening and the details after the necessary inspections, which are planned after the completion of all the works provided for by the construction permit – announced Marianowicz.
