WASHINGTON, DC (7News) — As DC City Councilman Treyon White awaits his next court hearing related to a money-sharing scheme, a Maserati is parked next to his Southeast home.
The owner of the vehicle is unknown. 7News has requested DMV records for all vehicles registered by city council members for official or personal use.
White is accused of accepting $156,000 in bribes, and according to the indictment, he received $35,000 in cash from the confidential informant over four meetings.
Update: Treyon White expected to be removed from oversight committee
White earned about $167,000 as a city council member, according to public records. In addition to his home in Southeast, court documents show he also lived in an apartment building. Two of the alleged bribe payments were made out of that apartment building, a luxury high-rise complex in the Navy Yard, according to The Washington Post.
7News also reviewed White's financial disclosure reports from 2017 to 2023. The reports list no gifts or outside income other than the home he sold in 2021.
Public records show he bought the home for $200,000 in 2010. Records don't list the sale price, but his financial disclosures put his ownership interest's value at between $250,000 and $500,000.
White represents the 8th District, a diverse community where minorities and low-income people often feel forgotten or marginalized. White is known for his on-the-ground activism, and now his supporters are eager to learn more about his case.
