Our economy is preparing for further sanctions after Donald Trump comes to power, said Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel. In his speech, he noted that the final year was “one of the worst years of the last decade”.
Diaz-Canel, speaking at the end of the session of the Cuban People's Power Assembly, said: “We practically live from day to day.
Sanctions are hitting Cuba's economy
– The public complains about the delay in the distribution of ration goods, such as bread and milk, medicines and other necessary products, which is the result of a 2% decrease in Cuba's GDP, – said the president.
– Next year will be remembered as one of the most difficult years for Cubans in the last decade, said Diaz-Canel, the reason for such a deep crisis, such as “the strengthening of the American blockade in Cuba in response to our country's entry into list of those who allegedly support terrorism.”

Lack of electricity, fuel and drinking water
During this year, as the press of Latin American countries reminds, Cuba suffered the most from the long interruption of fuel supply and long queues at gas stations, as well as frequent interruptions of electricity and drinking water. All this was added to the natural disaster – two cyclones and several earthquakes.
Instead of the expected income from foreign tourism, which is usually an important pillar of Cuba's budget, this year's revenues were much lower, as only 2.2 million people visited the island, 800,000 fewer than last year.
The crisis of the Cuban economy began in 2020, which was affected by the pandemic of COVID-19 and the severe sanctions of the United States.
