What makes some people happy today has caused many problems for others.
– It was a very hard night, it was windy and snowing, so today there was work ahead, snow removal, – says one of our interlocutors. – No one was prepared for this rain, I did not expect that winter will come this year, – admits another interlocutor.
– It has just started, so there is no need to worry, I like the snow there, I have no complaints – says another interlocutor.
From Gdansk through Białystok to Krakow
Frost, blizzard and snow. Winter showed its first snow. Many regions of Poland became white. Heavy rain fell in the south of the country from Saturday evening.
– Yesterday the weather changed significantly due to the low pressure moving through Scandinavia over Lithuania, Latvia and Belarus, – says Piotr Manczak, IMWM forecaster.
Due to this reduction, heavy rain fell in the south of the country from Friday evening. A storm, intensified by strong winds, also occurred in the north. The wind blows at a speed of up to one hundred kilometers per hour.
– When I was entering Szczecinek, there was a storm, it was terrible, I saw something like this for the first time, – says the driver.

From Gdańsk through Białystok to Krakow, the first plows were put on the roads of most of the country. – Only in the last 24 hours, 85 vehicles equipped with plows and sandblasters went to the streets of Gdansk. Only 470 tons of salt were poured, says Patrick Rosinski, the press representative of the Gdansk road construction and landscaping department.
– The work continued all night, in fact, we are still finishing in some places, – says Piotr Odorchuk, the press representative of MPO Kraków.
Multiple collisions and accidents due to difficult conditions
Although Friday’s winter onslaught was predicted and warned by the State Security Center and IMWM, difficult road conditions led to numerous collisions and accidents.
In Volany near Polanica-Zdroj in Lower Silesia, one person was injured as a result of a collision between a car and a plow. In Koszalini Pommr, a tree fell on top of your car due to strong wind, which was followed by another car. Firefighters had to extricate the woman trapped in the car. She was taken to the hospital with a spinal cord injury.

In the south of Greater Poland, wet snow quickly turned to ice on the road. For a 25-year-old truck driver, winter’s onslaught ended when he slid off the road.
A Category 1 weather warning is in effect Friday evening through Sunday.
– We are predicting a gradual, very fast warming, but now there will be frost next night. Negative temperatures across the country. Piotr Manczak says that in the south-east, even down to 10 degrees, and in the valleys of Podkarpackie, the temperature drops to 15 degrees.
It may be dangerous everywhere… The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management still warns of severe cold – all of Poland.
