Most children with cancer can be saved
Modern equipment is needed to fight cancer, which affects even the smallest.
– More than 1200 new cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed every year. Today, thanks to advances in medicine, more than 80 percent of patients can be cured, but this effective anti-cancer treatment is very expensive – explains prof. Valentina Balwierz from the University Children’s Hospital in Krakow.
The last time WOŚP played for oncology was 10 years ago.
– We have syringe pumps, suction machines, heart monitors from the WOŚP fund. Due to the fact that the number of these patients is constantly increasing, (…) we hope that Mr. Owsiak will give us something this year, – says Iwona Świerczek-Skwierawska, a medical nurse at the University Children’s Hospital in Krakow.
Unfortunately, the equipment wears out quickly. Therefore, the list of needs in hospital wards is very long.
– We need to change our ultrasound room. “Ultrasound scanners, which are red in our country, conduct hundreds of thousands of tests,” says Dr. Hab. MD Ninela Irga-Jaworska, hematologist, oncologist and pediatrician from the clinical center of the University of Gdańsk.
